Julie Andrews-Lagace with a German Shepherd at Waggy Butts

About Waggy Butts

Waggy Butts brings together two important parts of my life: more than a decade of breeding and training German Shepherds, and a personal journey into canine nutrition and wellness.

After one of my own dogs developed severe allergies, I began searching for better answers and taking a much closer look at the ingredients in the products we give our dogs. That experience inspired me to create a shop specializing in all-natural supplements, single-ingredient treats and carefully selected Canadian products—alongside personalized dog training built on experience, clear communication and the individual needs of every dog.

Meet Julie

Hi, I’m Julie Andrews-Lagace, the owner and trainer behind Waggy Butts. My journey began in 2011 with German Shepherd Dogs. For more than a decade, I have been breeding and training German Shepherds while working hands-on with puppies, adult dogs and their families.

That experience taught me that every dog is an individual. Breed, temperament, history, environment and family dynamics all influence how a dog learns, which is why I don’t believe in using the same training plan for every dog.

Alongside my practical experience, I have continued to expand my education through:

  • A Diploma in Dog Training and Instruction
  • Canine Communication certification
  • Puppy Training specialization
  • Science-Based Dog Training certification
  • Advanced education through The Puppy Lab

My approach is practical, balanced and tailored to the dog in front of me. I focus on clear communication, fair expectations and real-life skills that help dogs and their families live more confidently together.

Why I Started the Shop

The shop began for a very personal reason. One of my own dogs suffered from severe allergies, and finding products that I felt comfortable giving her was not easy. I wanted to understand what was contributing to her symptoms rather than simply accepting that she would always struggle.

That experience led me to take a deep dive into canine nutrition, ingredient quality and the role that diet and supplementation can play in a dog’s overall well-being. The more I learned, the more carefully I began reading labels and questioning what was actually inside many everyday pet products.

Waggy Butts Pet Store grew from that journey. I now specialize in thoughtfully selected Canadian products, all-natural supplements and single-ingredient treats with simple, recognizable ingredients. Every product is chosen with purpose so dog owners can feel more confident about what they are giving their dogs.

My Approach to Training

Good training is not about forcing every dog into the same method. It begins with understanding the individual dog—their temperament, history, motivation and the family they live with.

I use a balanced approach that combines rewards, clear guidance, structure, boundaries and fair corrections when appropriate. My goal is to help dogs understand what is expected of them while giving their owners practical tools they can use confidently in everyday life.

I also believe strongly in exposure training. Dogs do not need to greet or interact with every person or dog they encounter. They need to learn how to remain calm and neutral around people, dogs, vehicles, bicycles and other everyday distractions. Through clear communication and consistent practice, we build confidence, reliability and a stronger relationship at both ends of the leash.
